Legal Sector Advisers & Suppliers Conference with Macquarie Bank

Last week saw the second running of the Annual Legal Advisers & Suppliers +1 Conference in Australia, hosted by Macquarie Bank in their fantastic Head Office at 1, Elizabeth St in Sydney CBD.

The event was emceed by Alistair Marshall, Director of Professional Services Business Development along with Nick Skelton and Courtney Worrall from the bank’s dedicated Professional Services team.

The idea for a conference where advisers and suppliers dedicated to providing value to the legal industry, all bring along guests from a client law firm is a new thing here in Australia and makes for fantastic debate on all matters affecting law firms today.

The result was a day attended by dozens of interested parties, building valuable networks whilst learning from the lived experiences of other similar firms and suppliers. No salesy presentations are allowed, just great educational content.

Presentations saw delegates take in vital insights around key issues facing the profession such as Anti Money Laundering regulation, AI Robots use in firms, hybrid working and changing needs for office space, how to make the most from hyperlocal digital advertising, how to motivate lawyers to change and other key risks facing the legal profession such as insurance and how to mitigate them.

Ben Forrester, from Macquarie’s private bank presented an in-depth review of the Australian economy in light of recent global pressures and ex-international rugby player Dan Parks from Lockton Insurance Brokers gave insights on how he transitioned from being a top athlete into his current role and how his background in sport assisted him in being successful.

There was also a panel session asking law firm leaders from Sladen Legal Group, Madison Marcus & Chambers Russell lawyers about growth strategies, remote working, innovative staff retention ideas and how suppliers should and should not reach out to them and much more.

Networking drinks followed before moving on for dinner at Spanish restaurant Balcon.

A memorable takeaway from the day was AI won’t replace you but a person who uses AI just might.

The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and delegates requesting that this format becomes a regular event in the calendar.

Huge thanks to all those who contributed and made it such a rewarding and inspirational day. The event goes from strength to strength.
